Meet the officers of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department!

Bruce Lindberg, Chief

Bruce first joined the company in 1962 and served until entering the military in 1967. Returning as a member again in 1976 he has been continually active since, and prior to becoming Chief in 1998 held the positions of 2nd Assistant Chief and 1st Assistant Chief. Training courses attended over the years include Firefighter 1, ICS, hazardous materials operations and LP gas leak and fire control. Bruce became certified as a Medical Response Technician in 1978 and upgraded to Emergency Medical Technician in 1980. On the administrative side of operations he has long served as Secretary of the company and Clerk-Treasurer of the Fire District.


 

Brian Glaude, 1st Assistant Chief

Brian has been a member since 1976. Over the years he has held several line officer positions starting as a Lieutenant, then Captain, 2nd Assistant Chief and currently 1st Assistant Chief. He is certified as a Firefighter 1, and has completed Hazmat Operational and Incident Command Courses and was certified as a Medical Response Technician from 1989 to 2001. Also active on the administrative side of the company Brian served as President for eleven years and continues to serve as Treasurer, a position he has held for the past several years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fire District.


 

David Shippee, 2nd Assistant Chief

A member since 1978 Dave currently holds the position of 2nd Assistant Chief. Prior to this he served as Engineer, Lieutenant, and Captain. Also active on the emergency medical service side of the company’s operations Dave became a Medical Response Technician in 1978 and upgraded to Emergency Medical Technician in 1980. Dave also served for many years as a member of the local ambulance corps and has been a long term member of the Board of Directors of the Fire District.


 

 Craig Bein, Captain

Craig has been in the fire service since 1982, having started our sister department Oneco where he served as Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief. In addition to his present position Craig also serves as Engineer. An EMT since 1985 he also became a Firefighter 1 in 1988 and has since taken numerous training courses including ICS, flashover survival, LP gas leak, fire control, mobile home fires and Rit Team Training. Craig has also further honed his capabilities by participating in the Worcester Firefighters Memorial Seminar for the past several years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fire District.


 

John Miller, 1st Lieutenant

John joined the company in 1984 and has been a Lieutenant for the past several years. As the member living closest to the station John is most often the person behind the wheel of the first out apparatus, be it the Rescue, Engine or Ladder. Being equally comfortable operating each piece of equipment he often serves as a trainer for new apparatus operators. Being a shift worker John is often available on weekdays, a time that is often difficult to staff the apparatus.

 

Wayne Glaude, 2nd Lieutenant

Wayne joined the department in 2000 after growing up around the fire house. In 2001 Wayne left for collage in Morrisville, NY were he joined the fire department in Morrisville. Wayne still remained active in Sterling when ever he was home for vacations. In early 2004 He moved home for good. Wayne became Lieutenant in 2006. While being a member of both departments Wayne became certified as Fire Fighter Basic and Intermediate, Firefighter 1, Auto Extrication, Live fire safety officer, ladder operations, Mobile home fires, Rit Team Training, EMT in NY, CT, RI. Wayne is also the leader of our Junior Firefighter program.
