Meet the officers of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department!

Brian Glaude, Chief

Brian has been a member since 1976. Over the years he has held several line officer positions starting as a Lieutenant, then Captain, 2nd Assistant Chief, 1st Assistant Chief and currently Chief. He is certified as a Firefighter 1, and has completed Hazmat Operational and Incident Command Courses and was certified as a Medical Response Technician from 1989 to 2001. Also active on the administrative side of the company Brian served as President for eleven years and continues to serve as Treasurer, a position he has held for the past several years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fire Dist
rict.


 

Craig Bein, Deputy Chief

Craig has been in the fire service since 1982, having started in our sister department Oneco where he served as Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief. In addition to his present position Craig also serves as Engineer. An EMT since 1985 he also became a Firefighter 1 in 1988 and has since taken numerous training courses including ICS, Flashover survival, LP gas leak, Fire control, Mobile home fires,
Vehicle  extrication and Rit Team Training. Craig has also further honed his capabilities by participating in the Worcester Firefighters Memorial Seminar for the past several years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fire District.


 

David Shippee,  Assistant Chief

A member since 1978 Dave currently holds the position of 2nd Assistant Chief. Prior to this he served as Engineer, Lieutenant, and Captain. He was active on the emergency medical service side of the company’s operations. Dave became a Medical Response Technician in 1978 and upgraded to Emergency Medical Technician in 1980. Dave also served for many years as a member of the local ambulance corps and has been a long time member of the Board of Directors of the Fire District.


 

Bruce W. Henry, Captain

Bruce started his volunteer career in 1977 serving with the Stonington Borough Fire Department Steamers Company. He started as a firefighter working His way up to Steamer Engineer and finely held the Officers position of Stewart. Bruce has held the title of firefighter of the year for 2007 & 2008. He is proud to be a 4th generation firefighter
. Bruce is responsible for maintaining the NFIRS Reporting system required by the state. He  maintains the department web site www.sterlingfirect.com. His qualifications include
Incident Command Courses, Firefighter, Driver Operator, Medical Response Technician  & Web Master.  He is also active on the administrative side of the company Bruce serves as Financial Secretary. He also assists with the Junior Firefighter Program.


 

Wayne Glaude, 1st Lieutenant

Wayne joined the department in 2000 after growing up around the fire house. In 2001 Wayne left for collage in Morrisville, NY were he joined the fire department in Morrisville. Wayne still remained active in Sterling when ever he was home for vacations. In early 2004 He moved home for good. Wayne became Lieutenant in 2006. While being a member of both departments Wayne became certified as Fire Fighter Basic and Intermediate, Firefighter 1, Auto Extrication, Live fire safety officer, ladder operations, Mobile home fires, Rit Team Training,  EMT in NY, CT, RI. Wayne is also the leader of our Junior Firefighter program.

 

Jason Yancey, 2nd Lieutenant

Jason has lived in Sterling for his entire life he joined the department in 2002 as a firefighter. Jason then took his Firefighter I in 2004. In an effort the help people Jason decided to be come a Medical Response Technician in 2002. He holds the following qualifications. Rit Team member, Firefighter I, Medical response Technician, Vehicle  extrication & Driver Operator. He is also active on the administrative side of the company where he serves as Department Secretary. Jason is also a leader in the Junior Firefighter Program.

 

Dear Roussell, President

Dean has been a resident/homeowner in Sterling since 2002. He Joined the fire service in November of 2003.  This is Dean's 4th term as President. His qualifications include Fire Fighter 1, EMR and RIT team member.  Dean is also a leader in the junior Firefighter program. Dean's membership on the SVFD is his opportunity to give back to his community and to do something good for the residents, homeowners and business people of Sterling.
